RARE PLANTS

The genus Nepenthes, which includes the monotipik family, consisting of 80-100 species, either natural or hybrid. This genus is carnivorous plants in the Old World tropics, now includes the state of Indonesia (55 species, 85%), China Southern, Malaysia, Philippines, Madagascar, Seychelles, Australia, New Caledonia, India, and Sri Lanka. Most species habitat is on the island of Borneo and Sumatra.

This plant can reach 15-20 m high with a way to climb other plants. At the end of the vine leaves which may have been modified to form the bag, which is a tool that is used to trap prey eaten (such as insects, Pacet, child frog) who enter into.

In Indonesia, kantung Semar (Nepenthes), including rare plants are protected under Law No. 5 of 1990 on Conservation of Natural Resources and the Ecosystems and Biological Regulation No. 7 of 1999 on plant species and protected animals. Also all kinds nephenthes listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora Fauna (CITES). Based on the criteria of the International Union of Conservation of Nature and World Conservation Monitoring, Nepenthes plants classified as rare.
